"HUMSS? Sus, wala ka namang mapapala diyan, eh."
"Bakit? Para madali?"
"Eh hindi ka naman malalim mag-English."
"Huwag na, mamumulubi ka lang doon."

These are just a few of the criticisms non-HUMSS people throw at HUMSS people. Whether we like it or not, some of these criticisms may be partially true, but this strand plays an important role in our society and we can't live without it. So here are 8 things you have to know about the HUMSS Strand. Welcome to the Humanities and Social Sciences Strand.

1. It's for the "people person".

If you're outgoing, sociable and open, then, you are on the right track. With Sociology and Psychology, two of the branches of Humanities and Social Sciences, it involves being with lots of people. You're going to observe and listen to different kinds of people. Don't you think studying people are interesting?

2. You can list down "reading" and "writing" as your hobbies. Weh, naks naman!

For HUMSS students, reading and writing a lot is expected. A lot. With subjects like Creative Writing and Creative Nonfiction, you’ll learn how to write poetry, short stories, and drama. For the writers at heart, it's your time to shine. Also, Linguistics, a branch of Humanities and Social Sciences requires a lot of reading and you'll be amazed how words are formed and used. A W E S O M E.

3. It's for the curious-minded.

Some might see the HUMSS strand as boring and lame because of its specialization subjects like Philippine Politics, Social Sciences and etc., but I bet you’re curious about the world too. The world is very interesting actually. In addition, Sociology and Philosophy are two of the branches of HUMSS. These branches will test your curiosity level to the core. Unlimited questions are very much appreciated in these branches.

4. Research is life.

History and Anthropology are two of the branches of Humanities and Social Sciences. These involves a lot of research. Without research, we wont be able to input unlimited information in our minds. Research is important because it helps us know more. It helps us learn new things by asking questions and discovering it on our own. Finishing a research paper is one of the best feeling ever. Legit.

5. You can master the art of reading minds and predicting the future.

HUMSS students have the chance to predict the future because they spend time looking back at the past and learning from all the mistakes and successes of humanity since the beginning of time. In short, study History and its relevance to the world today. Also, in HUMSS, you will have the ability to understand how people think and why they think that way. One of the possible careers a HUMSS graduate can have is by being a psychologist.

6. Reality will spank you in the face. Parang Nesfruta, real na real.

The HUMSS strand lets you see the real world. Not just a part but every aspect of the human life. Taking up Political Science will take you to the real world. Bigger problems to solve for the betterment of the country and to the world.

7. You can be an explorer like Dora!

If you're like Dora who wants to travel and explore different places, this strand is the right one for you! Geology is also a branch of HUMSS. Surely, this career path will take you to places even just by studying it. Traveling? Memories? That's something no one can ever steal from you. Travel while you can.

8. Lastly, your future careers are very fulfilling. Yup, hindi lang Inipit, Fudgee Bar at Whatta Tops ang may filling!

Careers in the HUMSS strand are very fulfilling. I can say that this strand is a complete package! If you wish to travel, interact with different people, help people, have fun while working and so on, take the HUMSS strand. Surely, you will be able to contribute to the world by bringing justice and peace, molding the youth, and creating friendships between countries. Being in the HUMSS strand gives you the chance to make a mark in the world!
